Fewer than two thirds of firms selling AI help to small businesses in Portland will tell you a price before a call. The ones that do split into two products that look like one. At one end, hourly setup and training work with a small audit as the entry point, from $375. At the other, fixed-scope building with a mapping engagement as the entry point, around $2,500. In between sits a national agency selling a fixed build. The 13-fold spread in first-step price is mostly a difference in what is being bought, not in who is expensive.
For one built project, the four firms that serve businesses under 50 people start between $500 and $7,500 and top out between $1,000 and $15,000. The mid-market firm's implementation band, $50,000 to $250,000, is a different market and is excluded from those medians.
Hourly rates are rare. Only 2 of 9 publish one, at $150 and $200 to $400. Everyone else prices by engagement or does not say.
On 2026-09-12 I read the public pricing, services and Portland pages of every firm I could find serving the Portland metro under "AI consultant" or "AI automation," including my own, and copied the prices as written. Where a firm publishes a range, both ends are recorded. Where it publishes nothing, the row says so; a tool subscription price is not counted as a consulting price. "Based in" is what each firm says about itself. Medians are computed on the low end of each published range. I did not contact any firm, and I have not adjusted any number. If a price on this page is out of date, tell me and I will correct it and note the change here.
